The Baby Room, Exeter

The award winning, much loved Baby Room is a beautiful, independent space for new families situated in the heart of Exeter city centre with parking nearby.

This not for profit ‘Community Interest Company’ is led by dedicated local heroes Jen Harris (also known as the ‘nappy lady’) and Gillian Travis whose initial goal to provide an affordable venue for baby and parent groups in Exeter has become so much more than that over the past decade.

Being the permanent home of Exeter Real Nappy Initiative and Exeter sling library this one-stop shop stocks thoughtful gifts such as Blade & Rose/ Jellystone & Usborne books but also has a huge inventory of pre-loved maternity items including swimsuits (ideal for your aquanatal classes with me) nursing clothes & bras and a library of baby related books with a ‘well-stocked help yourself shelf’ for any necessities donated by other families.

With practical facilities in place to make your life easier such as pool & breastpump hire/ nappies/ pads/ change of clothes – bathroom for you, a baby change area equipped with baby weigh scales and Jen & Gill always on hand to give practical advice on baby-wearing, breastfeeding and everything you want/ need to know from trying to conceive up to and beyond the birth of your baby.

As breastfeeding peer supporters who are able to help with positing and attachment, blocked ducts, mastitis, blebs, cracks, soreness, colic, reflux and just about anything else – why not pop in where you will be made a hot or cold drink offered cake and at times seasonal treats such as soups, you have an open invitation to make the most of this much loved melting pot.

This hub is used by many popular and established practitioners/ groups/ workshops/ events/ drop-ins and new dads groups and activities for new and expectant parents including my ‘must do course for mums with new babies’ the Postnatal Pod.

The baby room is spread over two floors, with the Postnatal Pod being held in the private upstairs studio which is a beautifully bright yet cosy space perfect for this intimate gathering of mums and babies.
